Wow, Thank You Each and All!

A very heartfelt thank you to all who backed this project. It is so wonderful to see people engaged in learning about and supporting an injury that is so under-studied and under-funded. Together we can move towards real change in improving the quality of life for these women and girls.

After 30 days, we had close to 800 people view the project page and 59 backers! Collectively we raised $4,470! Your donation will support local research assistants to recruit participants and interpret during interviews, travel and accommodation to the often remote areas where women with this condition are living, and a small sum that goes directly to the women for their time and effort.

I am ever so grateful and look forward to sharing updates with you all as this research moves along. And should you have any questions or comments, please feel free to share in the discussion section.

Medase pas (thank you very much),

Nessa

About This Project

Women with obstetric fistula experience chronic leaking urine, leading to stigma, isolation, and loss of income. (Wall, 2006) Repair is possible, but only 2% of the two million affected women ever access surgery, and 50-100,000 new cases occur each year. (UN, 2014) Women and girls are in dire need of a new solution to manage their injury. For this project, we will interview Ghanaian women with fistula to study stigma, coping, and acceptability of a non-surgical method for fistula management.

Blast off!
